Enola Holmes Book Tag

Hey, everyone! I’m doing yet another tag this week because first of all I have a whole lot that I need to do and second of all I completely forgot about posting anything until today and I’m going on vacation today (I dont’ even know if this tag will actually get out because I may not have time.)
Anyways, let’s get into this!
This tag is based off of the movie (book?) Enola Holmes and I read the book and watched bits and pieces of the movie a while ago so I thought I’d try it out! (let’s not mention that I literally remember 4 of the characters mentioned here because my brain is great with names irl but terrible with names in books)
I was tagged for this by the wonderful Madeline @The Bookish Mutant and please go and check out her amazing blog!

~Rules~

  1. List the rules and the prompts of the tag in your post
  2. Thank the person who tagged you and pingback to their post
  3. Give credits to the creator of the tag, Bellerose Reads, and pingback to her post.
  4. Tag at least 5 people to do the tag.

Enola Holmes: An independent and smart female protagonist

I’ll go with a choice that I don’t usually stick in book tags here–Emanuela from Beyond the Ruby Veil. The book itself was a little bit meh (bow down to my descriptive skills) but I would definitely describe our main character as ‘independent and smart’. She’s also a morally grey character so if you like that kind of stuff, maybe you should try this book!

Sherlock Holmes: Your favorite mystery/thriller book

Uh wow I don’t read much mystery or thriller. I think I’ll go with The Girls I’ve Been by Tess Sharpe–it was the most recent thriller I’ve read and it was also very good!

Eudoria Holmes: A character that defies the rules of their society

I don’t know if this is rules so much as stereotypes and judgement but throughout I’ll Be The One, Skye constantly has to face doubters and haters who don’t think she can/should be in a KPop competition given that she’s fat. She never backs down from the competition and shows everyone that no matter what you look like, you can get to your dreams.

Mycroft Holmes: The most annoying character you know

Uh wow that’s really tough. I mean, there’s a lot of annoying characters out there but how do I choose THE MOST annoying? My first thought went to characters who are homophobic/transphobic, etc. who are the antagonists of books (Simon vs, Felix Ever After) but those characters aren’t what I’d describe ‘annoying’, they’re awful. So I really don’t know what I’d go for, here.

Lord Tewksbury: A character you want to protect at all costs

There’s so many, but I’m going with what my brain immediately thought of: Jesper and Wylan (I know, I know, it’s two, I’m sorry…). I dunno, they are both just such beans and I must make sure they don’t get hurt. Though, if I had to choose one, I’d choose Wylan.

Inspector Lestrade: A loyal side character

My brain sometimes just thinks of a random book I wouldn’t have thought of otherwise, but I’ll go with Miles from Lore for this one. Miles is just a complete mortal with no connection to any of the greek god stuff going on in Lore but when Lore finds a dying goddess outside her house, he helps her with that. Lore and the others, too, constantly tell him to get out of there because it’s dangerous for him and he doesn’t need to be there but he stays and also proves himself useful many times.

Miss Harrison: A book that aged like milk

At first I was very confused as to what ‘like milk’ meant because clearly I don’t know that milk spoils okay then. Anyways. A book that aged badly…I can’t think of anything that aged too badly but recently I read the fourth book in the Magic Misfits series and it just wasn’t as enjoyable as I remember the first three being, probably because I’m just not as young anymore.

Linthorn: A character you hated from the very beginning

I guess I’ll say Minya from Strange the Dreamer, here. I get that Minya had a really traumatizing past and she was just trying to protect everyone, but she went around with it in a very bad way and she was just all out cruel.

Edith: Your favorite book with black rep.

It was really tough to choose, here, but I think I’ll go with Felix Ever After. It was just a really enjoyable book, possibly my favorite realistic fiction ever. It kept me totally engaged the whole time and I devoured it in one sitting to finish it.

Alright, there’s the end of the tag! I’m not gonna tag anyone because I don’t know who has/hasn’t watched/read the movie/book but if you have watched or read it, please try out this tag! It was super fun to do!

That’s all for this post! I really hope that you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed doing it! Thank you so much for stopping by my little corner of the internet and have an amazing rest of your day! Sorry if this tag came off as a little bit rushed (because it was, indeed, rather rushed, but I still loved doing it). As always, stay safe and keep on reading!

  1. Ahh amazing tag Phoenix!! Yes Wylan NEEDS to be protected at all costs!! He’s too precious for this world! And that’s why we need to see him in the show!! (omg there’s only like five days left ahhhhhh)

    1. Thank you, I’m so glad that you enjoyed it!!! Hahaaaa yes Wylan MUST be protected. OH MY GOSH IS TODAY THE DAY??? WOAH!!!! Aaaah I really hope you like it! I probably won’t watch it for a while, especially because I’m still unsure about that rating (please tell me what the Mature rating is referring to, I need to know if I can watch it with my friends, thank you) but AAAAAAAAAAAH THATS SO EXCITINGGGGGGGGG

      1. Ahhh yes! Umm so I kinda lost control and binge watched the whole thing last night haha. And omg it is SPECTACULAR!!! I LOVED IT! And yes, it does have a few mature scenes so I get why they said it has “nudity” elements in the show. But I skipped past most of them because they weren’t that important. BUT AHHHHH ITS SO GOOD YOU HAVE TO WATCH IT!!!

      2. Hahaaa yeah I haven’t started it but I WILL START TODAY!!!! IT LOOKS AMAZING!!!!. I’ve watched the trailer and the teaser each several times. Ah, yeah, I mean I’ve watched other TV-14 things and they do have a few things like that but it’ll probably be fine. I KNOW I KNOW I CANT WAAAAAAAIT

      3. Okayokayokay I watched like 2.5 episodes and ITS REALLY GOOD SO FAR. I LOVE the cast and the addition of the Crows is super awesome, I’m curious to see how they continue to be intertwined in the story. Alina and Mal both are much better than they are in the books and the goat was very cute lol.

      4. Omg yesssss. Honestly we’re getting so much more crow content than I expected and I love it!! The storylines intertwine beautifully and I can’t wait for you to see that! Yes Alina and Mal are definitely better, especially Mal. Ahhh the goat is so cute!!! It plays a pretty big role in the upcoming episodes so stay tuned for that!!!

      5. Exactly! Well it’s not a VERY big part, but it’s a pretty iconic part of the show. Thankfully, no it doesn’t. though I would love to know what happened to the goat after the events of the last episode.

      6. Ah YES he gets a NAME!!! Lol of course Jesper names him. ngl, it would be HILARIOUS if he’d named him Wylan before he’d even known Wylan, like–
I’ve now watched episode 1 twice because I *can* even though I still haven’t finished the show and am still on episode three lol.

      7. YES HE DOES. OMG that would be amazing 😂😂
That just shows how good this show is lol. You can’t help but watch it again and again!

      8. Haha yess I can already see that happening!!
My mom started watching it after I finished it only because she liked the logo lol. I think she’s going to enjoy it a lot hahaa.

      9. Lollll that is an excellent reason to watch a show haha. I hope she enjoys it! I also hope that my family enjoys it, apparently my mom saw something on twitter in which there’s like some racist slurs in the show (aimed towards Alina) and like I explained that it’s because she’s Shu and in Ravka so the Ravkans are discriminating against her but it honestly is not great that those are there (especially because Bardugo was one of the producers or at least oversaw the show or whatever and shes white? idk that doesn’t seem great to me). Anyways, hoping that Bardugo will address that or something and it’s still a very good show, it’s just…the slurs and discrimination technically didn’t need to be there. But I’m really hoping my mom will still like it because it’s still a very good show!!!

      10. Yeah me too! I’ve seen that quite a lot on the Internet and it looks like a lot of the audience have a problem with that, and like, yeah I know it’s not right, I hope someone does something about it, because this show honestly has SO MUCH POTENTIAL. I really hope your mom likes it too!

        Liked by 1 person

      11. Yeahhhh I really hope they address it somewhere. I mean part of it is definitely part of the show, to show the tension between different countries, stuff like that, but it still should be addressed as well as toned down in the next season/specifically addressed in the show (more so than it already was because it was addressed a little bit).

      12. Yeah!
In other news I watched a video where the cast members react to watching the teaser and it was super funny at the end the person who plays jesper just looked at the camera and went ‘i think ill watch that’ lol.
Also I’m watching episode one for the third time haha I’ve just started it with three different people.

      13. Haha yeah I think I’ve seen that somewhere!
Ahhh I hope you enjoy it! Let me know what you think!

      14. THE END OF EPISODE FIVE WAS SO FUNNYYYYYYYYYY. I literally laugh every time I think of Alina literally kidnapping herself oh my gosh. Jesper didn’t even DO anything in all of that episode and yet he’s the only one who achieved their mission (I mean technically he still didn’t do anything but if he hadn’t gotten the coach ready, Alina wouldn’t have kidnapped herself.)

      15. OMG IKR! The irony in that scene is amazing 😂 but his laugh when he saw Alina just climb into that box was just *chefs kiss*

    2. Oh, it looks like the show is rated TV-14 now, I guess they changed the rating or something? I don’t really know. But anyways, I just watched the trailer and teaser to get hyped up and I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY NEED TO WATCH THIS THING LIKE RIGHT NOW. Oh my gosh I really want to just START WATCHING IT.

      1. I just finished it actually and I enjoyed it a lot! It was super thrilling and I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what will happen next!

    1. Thank you, I’m so glad that you enjoyed reading this! Ooh, I hope you like doing the tag as much as I do, I’m so excited that you’re trying it out! The movie was amazing (*gasps* you’re betraying the bookish community. Haha, no, it’s okay, I read the book after I watched the movie so you’re not alone. You can always pick up the book now! (the movie may very well be better–or maybe just different))

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Me too 🙂 (We can be exiled together lol! I will totally pick up the books! (I shall see my opinion soon! At least if I don’t like the books I enjoyed the movie))

        Liked by 1 person

      2. (Yay! Just remember to bring lots of books to your exile so that we both have plenty to read. If we both bring about…fifty…we’ll be set for several days! Hope that you have a big enough box to carry them all! Haha (Awesome! Haha I feel like enjoying a movie but not a book is some sort of badge of shame on a reader lolllll but I feel like they were just written and filmed in different times, there’s a different air to them. I say ‘different times’ I mean the book was published in 2006 which isn’t that long ago, but still, there’s just a very different feel to them.))

      3. (I have a librarian type of cart that should work! (Oh yes, I felt the same way about A Series of Unfortunate Events! The books felt more draggy compared to the show. Which could also be a part of watching-the-show-before-book-syndrome. I agree))

        Liked by 1 person

      4. (Excellent, I’ll meet you there…wherever ‘there’ is….(Ooh, yeah, I didn’t like A Series of Unfortunate Events, the books, the writing style was just too cluttered and ominous for me haha. I watched like 1 episode of the show but sorta gave up because I didn’t enjoy it either, but the rest of my family is watching it together)

  2. This tag didn’t come out as rushed at all, don’t worry about it 🙂
I can see why you don’t like Minya, I too wish she had gone about dealing with her trauma in a better way instead of being cruel and lashing out on other people :/
I hope your vacation is going well 😊

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I’m glad to hear that!
Yeah, Minya was a very complex character, she also got better at the end of the second book (have you read it yet?) but the way she went around trying to help her friends was not cool at all.
Thank you, I just returned from my vacation and it was very nice!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Yes, I’ve read the second book and I definitely agree that she got a lot better! I actually really liked her ARC in the end 🙂

  3. Ha ha ha ha…I totally didn’t scream upon seeing The Girls I’ve been on this list!
Okay, maybe, just maybe I did, but you can’t blame me because that book is so intricately plotted and I love the characters and ahhh, it’s AMAZING! Lovely post as always!!!
