March Wrap Up (part one)

I honestly cannot believe it’s already the end of March. I feel like March went slower than the other months but it’s also…already the end of it? We’re a fourth of the way through the year already and I’m not entirely sure how we got here. I swear, it was just February.
Anyways. I’m going to do this wrap up slightly backwards from the way I did the last one–we’re doing everything but the bookish parts of the wrap up first and then the bookish parts afterwards, just because it’s not yet the end of the month and I want to be able to squeeze some more pages into these last few days!

~Posts I Enjoyed~

~February Blog Posts~

I posted three times this month. Not as much as usual, I feel like, and my posts really declined towards the end there but hey, they’re there and they’re mine, so….

I feel like my ‘Thoughts on Teens in YA’ post had the potential to become a really good post. However I of course procrastinated until the last minute to write it and didn’t even write it well so in my opinion it was sort of a flop. Maybe one day I’ll go back and write it again because I’d been super excited for it!

~Monthly Goals~

March goals:

  • Study more for tests
  • Go for more walks
  • Read the books that I own (instead of ignoring them and just reading books I get from the library)
  • STOP LOOKING AT STATS SO MUCH ✅❌
  • Reach at least chapter 10 in writing my book

I feel like I really did do better in studying for tests which is really nice because that’s never been something I’m good at doing.
Walks, well, I still don’t go on as many as I probably should but I made an effort to get outside even if I wasn’t going on a walk and did go on a few more walks I think.
I almost exclusively read books that I own this month! I have a lot of them all piling up and I was able to get through a lot of them which was super awesome.
I believe that I looked at stats less than I usually do, especially towards the end of the month, but I still proooobably need to work on that.
Also, I got like halfway through chapter 10 in my book but didn’t actually finish it, so…I guess that counts?

April goals:

  • In free time, do what I want to do (aka, blog if I want or write what I want, don’t do what I feel like I have to do)
  • Drink more water (a constant problem for me)
  • Write some more
  • Try to get outside more
  • Be more efficient in homework (granted, this is something that I’ve been doing towards the end of March as well)

~Blogging Updates~

I have no blogging updates. Nothing happened this month. Haha but I’m serious, I quite literally don’t know what to say here so….yeah. My blog exists. There you go.

~Life Updates~

  • I did NOT watch Julie and the Phantoms. Haha I know this is a little bit of a silly one to put on here but given my obsession with it it’s a liiiiittle bit surprising that I didn’t watch it. Still, hit me with all your theories, ideas, etc. no matter how crazy they are. The crazier, the better. Also, if you haven’t watched it, go watch it. I’m sure you’ve heard this before from me. But go watch it.
  • Okay the above statement is now a lie. I actually thought I’d get through the month without watching even one episode of JATP but who am I kidding? I did end up watching the first episode on Thursday.
  • I FINISHED ATLA. This is pretty big achievement for me given the pace at which I watch shows (I don’t actually want to watch them any faster–watching shows gives me semi-writer’s block–but I’m just reeeeeeeeally slow at it). It took me 6.5 months to get through this show and I really enjoyed it! Still not good as The Dragon Prince though. Someone, please agree with me. TDP is better. Please, someone. Everyone likes ATLA more. I just want one personnnnnnnnnnn.
  • I also started Legend of Korra immediately after finishing ATLA. I haven’t gotten very far yet but…wow it’s a little weird? I don’t know it’s just so different from ATLA. Even the animation style is different. Also seeing old Katara–and Katara’s children and grandchildren that’s weird.
  • I’ve written some more! I had a pretty productive writing month which I’m happy about and my story is going along swimmingly! (I swear, I never say ‘swimmingly’ but I just had to here because…it’s a book about mermaids….swimming… *crickets. crickets*)
  • The baseball season started. I mean, sorta. Not really. Anyways, for those of you who don’t know, I’m a huge baseball fan and the offseason is a very annoying time but spring training has now started so hooray! I know that no one else pays attention to major league baseball (And if you do, please tell me so that we can talk non-stop about it) but spring training is very exciting for baseball fans. Or….maybe just me given that whenever I try to talk about it to my family they go ‘okay but the games don’t matter in spring training’

Hey everyone, this is just one more reminder that the book giveaway of A Bite of Revenge by Setayesh Kazempoor is still going and ends tomorrow. Please enter, I promise you that it is well worth it! You can find my post where I have an author interview with Setayesh here. That post also outlines the giveaway requirements. You can also enter the giveaway directly here.
Also I want to acknowledge that there was a bit of a mess-up with the giveaway when I first started it but it’s all fixed now!

What do you think about my month? How was your month? What’d you think of my posts this month? Please let me know in the comments! Oh, also–I’ve been sort of struggling to figure out what to write that I want to write so if anyone wants to do a collab post on just about anything (I mean, it’s gotta be book related), please let me know in the comments, I’d be happy to work with you as long as you’re someone who I’ve talked to on my blog or yours beforehand. Also, you better have chosen the topic already because I’m *indecisive*.
Thank you so much for stopping by and as always, stay safe and keep reading!

      1. NaNoWriMo (the November program) is when all goals are the same: 50,000 words! It’s a LOT of words! But in Camp NaNo (one in April one in July) you can set your own goal! You write, write, and write! You can also update your progess on the webiste which is thankfully very easy 🙂

      2. Ooooh, that’s cool! Okay, that makes sense, that’s super awesome! I’d like to participate in Camp NaNo but I don’t have an account on the website…and yes, I know I could get one, but idk. I guess I’ll just…write without any goals lol.

      3. 🙂 I’m going to working on a second draft of one novel and starting a new project! I have so many ideas I had to draw out of a hat haha! I’ve been collecting ideas for nearly a year, combining them, and growing them!

  1. Phoenix! Ahh I’m more than ready for another epic- length wrap up of yours haha… agreed time just passed so fast and it’s nearly April now? I’m glad to see that you accomplished many of your goals, I truly need to read books I own and stop finding new shiny releases from the library as well! HAHA that pun about your writing… 😂 but please do share with us more about your writing project if you want to in the future!! Will be looking forward to part two of this wrap up, all the best in squeezing more pages in! Great post as always! 💖

    1. Haha glad that you enjoy! Yeah, I really don’t know how it’s the end of March, where did time go??? It’s crazy! Haha yeah usually I get a bunch of books for Christmas or my birthday or something and then I just let them sit on my shelf while I get books from the library so now I’ve made this goal to read more that I actually own…I’ve been doing pretty well with it. Haha that was the most ridiculous pun I made, I have no idea where it came from. I don’t know if I’ll share more of my writing in the future, we’ll have to see! Haha okay well that’s the cue for me to get onto writing part two of the wrap up which I’ve written about one twentieth of so far…oops! Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting!

  2. Wow what a great wrap up post!! But errr, we have to agree to disagree because ATLA is definitely better than The Dragon Prince (I have watched both). I don’t know but I didn’t feel so attached to the TDP characters like the ATLA ones. Except Aunt Amaya. Aunt Amaya is so awesome😊 I haven’t watched legend of Korra but it must be weird seeing Katara as a grandma😂

    1. Hmmmmph. I mean I think that it just depends the order that you watch them in…I watched TDP before ATLA so I’m more attached to the characters and such. Plus, TDP isn’t actually finished yet so it would sorta make sense that you’re not as attached to the characters….there’s way more episodes of ATLA. Hahaaaa Amaya really is totally awesome, my personal favorite is Aanya though…she totally burned Viren that time at the meeting whatever thing, also she’s just awesome like…idk. She’s awesome.
Yeah, TLOK is super weird, I’ve heard that it’s not as good as ATLA and honestly…it’s just different. Super different. I’ve only watched one episode but the entire place is way more developed, like there’s this giant city, there’s cars and their flying machines are more sophisticated and just…weird. And yes, Grandma Katara is definitely one of the oddest parts.

      1. *I had to google who Aanya was cuz I’d watched this so long ago I’d forgotten most of the characters* yes Aanya’s awesome too! I totally love the moment she shows up in battle with her army. I know it’s totally cliche but I love moments like that in movies and shows.

      2. Haha yeah that happens to me sometimes too lol. Yeah, I loved that part so much, like especially when she just shoots her arrows and stuff and just aaaah it’s so amazing. Yeah, me too, like the ‘all hope is lost but then suddenly’ moments lol.

  3. Thank you so much for mentioning my post, it means a lot!! And…I am so sorry, but ATLA and LoK is better teehee. I do like the dragon prince though. It’s just that the art style wasn’t my thing, and I’m not big on high fantasy. Nevertheless the characters are really well developed and I love Rayla. She’s so awesome! Have you seen She-ra? or Kipo? I feel like you’d like those two shows since they are fairly similar to The Dragon Prince. Great post Phoenix! You’re honestly so hilarious ❤ ❤ ❤

    1. No problem! And noooooo TDP is better. Huh okay. I mean, I feel like ATLA is also high fantasy??? Haha yeah Rayla is totally awesome. I haven’t watched She-Ra or Kipo because I’m ridiculously slow at watching shows so we’re planning on trudging through TLOK, then doing She-Ra and then doing Kipo (though I think my sister started Kipo and now wants to watch it before She-Ra which is sorta sad since I’ve heard a LOT of good things about She-Ra). Thank you! Haha I’m glad to hear that I’m hilarious!

  4. Ahhhh thank you so much for mentioning my post and my blog, that means the world to me 🥺💖
I absolutely loved your post about Teen in YA – even though you said you wrote it in a rush, I still thought it was a really good analysis 🙂

  5. It looks like you had a pretty good month. I really, really need to watch Julie and the Phantoms (I mean, I did just finish Stranger Things, so I could use a new show to watch. I’m watching Angel, too, but I’m not quite hooked on it yet, and I feel like I’d like Julie and the Phantoms).
    Also, yay for more writing!

    1. Yeah, it was a pretty good month! Aaaaah yesss please watch it soon and tell me what you think!!! It’s such a good show! Ooh, I’ve heard a lot about Stranger Things and my friends think I’d like it but my parents think I wouldn’t haha. How’d you like it? And I’ve never heard of Angel!
Yes, yay for more writing indeed!
      Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Stranger Things has a lot of horror-ish elements, so if you don’t like that sort of thing than you probably wouldn’t like it. I really liked it, though. The characters are all amazing, the actors do a great job, and it’s just very interesting.
Angel is a spin-off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It’s about a vampire with a soul who sort of becomes a detective to help the hopeless.

    1. Huh okay. Yeah, I don’t know if I would like that, I sorta enjoy reading horror books but watching the movies is sorta just…a lot, haha.
Oh, huh. I’ve never watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer either but I’ve heard some things about it. Spin offs are weird, especially spin off shows.

      1. I usually don’t like horror movies/shows either, but I was totally fine with this, so I’m not sure if you’d find it scary or not. It might be worth watching one episode just to see what you think since it’s so popular. *shrugs*
        Spin-offs are really weird. XD.
Buffy is a good show, although that one’s a little weird, too (which is probably why I love it).

      2. Ah, okay! Well I may try to watch one episode, honestly I’m watching several different shows at once right now haha so I don’t know if I’ll be able to but I’ll definitely try! Though if I watch it with my friends, they’ll definitely just make me keep watching it haha.
Yeah, spin offs are weird no matter what. Okay, good to know! I think I have a friend who’s watched it but I’m not entirely sure.

  7. ayyy congrats on making it to chapter 10 in your book!!! I’m glad it’s going swimmingly (I love that joke and will most certainly be stealing it lol). oh the irony of not drinking enough water while writing a mermaid book hehe. I will second your hooray for the start of spring training! my family used to always go and watch some games for spring training during spring break, but obviously we couldn’t the last few years because of covid and everything ugh. thank you so much for sharing my post and best of luck in the month of April!!

    1. Thank you! Of course I realized that there’s a part of it that isn’t good and deleted two chapters so now I’m on chapter 8 buuuuut I did get to chapter ten? I just…deleted it after? but it was there at one point? haha yes that is definitely a problem of mine. Oh, cool! I’ve never gone to a spring training game (unfortunately) but when we travel (err, when we used to travel, before COVID) we always made a point to go to one or more games. But hey it’s opening day today! Haha I’m way too excited about this.
No problem and you too! Thanks for stopping by!

    1. YES THANK GOODNESS FOR NOT BEING ALONE haha. Yeah I mean ATLA was good but I just watched TDP before I watched ATLA and it just holds a special place in my heart lol. Plus, the characters are just amazing (not to say that the ATLA characters aren’t, but…). Who’s your favorite character?
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed 🙂

      1. Haha yes Callum is definitely a dork lol. I think I like Aanya best honestly, just because she was a total boss against Viren at the pentarchy (I don’t think I spelled that right but whatever) and in season 3 episode nine when she and her army arrived.
